Memory Machine

The concept of using the computer as a memory machine dates back to the original vision of Vandaver Bush that was articulated in his article As We May Think.

This vision inspired Doug Englebart and others, including Ward Cunningham, who invented the wiki.

Ward's original invention of the wiki turned out to be insufficient as a memory machine so he invented a new wiki form, that came to be called the fedwiki.

This fedwiki allows individual to not only keep information in a way that can allow themselves and others to better remember, but also wot begin to connect that information into new patterns of meaning.

Can the concept of a Memex, as a memory machine, be considered as an important model for the potential of computers for extended cognition?

Might the wiki be considered a memory machine?
